Therapist: Craig
Vassie, Chiltern Aromatherapy
Client: Helen S,
a 28 year old secretary from Beaconsfield who is 32 weeks pregnant with her
first baby. Helen was keen to avoid using an OTC product (such as Canestan)
because she's worried about possible side effects.
Assessment:
Candida Albicans (Thrush) presenting as a copious white discharge.
Vestibule is reddened and irritated. Patient is pale and tired, and appears slightly run down. No fever. Normal
BP range.
Treatment: We
prepared 30ml of a 5% dilution of Tea Tree (Melaleuca Alternifolia)
essential oil, diluted in plain Sweet Almond Oil. Helen was instructed to
soak a tampon in the oil mixture, then to squeeze out excess oil before
inserting the tampon, replacing the tampon regularly.
We gave Helen a cream for
vulval application to
help to counteract the irritation and "itchiness". Helen was
advised to keep the cream in the fridge, and to use it as often as she felt
the need.
We also massaged Helen's
back with an anti-fungal blend of essential oils, suitable for use in
pregnancy, and at a 1% dilution in Sweet Almond oil. Helen took a bottle of
this massage blend home with her too, so that her partner could continue to
give her a back massage every evening.

CLIENT FEEDBACK:
The
treatment worked well. The oil feels slightly strange at first, but you
soon get used to it !!
The discharge started to clear up within a few hours, but it took just
over a week to clear up completely.
Even better -
it hasn't come back !!
